In the Pre-School Room, we focus on helping children become school-ready by encouraging independence, problem-solving, and respect for others. Children are supported to extend their vocabulary through stories, songs, and rhymes, while learning essential maths skills through counting, sorting, matching, and sequencing activities.

Our pre-schoolers are encouraged to take responsibility, whether it’s laying tables for mealtimes, serving their own food, or voting on which book to read. These activities help build confidence, independence, and social skills.

What to Expect in the Pre-School Room:
  • Early literacy and numeracy skills

  • Problem-solving and critical thinking activities

  • Social skills through group activities

  • Preparation for school life

We love to get outside at General Day Nursery! We have two dedicated outdoor play areas – a quiet, sheltered garden for babies and a large outdoor area for children aged 2-5 years.

We believe outdoor play is essential for children’s development. That’s why we encourage them to play outside in all weathers – so don’t forget your wellies and raincoats!

🚶 Trips in the Local Community:
Our children also enjoy regular walks to the local library and visits to Parr Nursing Home, where they participate in shared activities with elderly residents. These outings help children build connections with the wider community, developing empathy and understanding.

Our large outdoor play area includes:
  • A mud kitchen for messy fun

  • A story tent for quiet reading time

  • A planting and growing area to encourage green fingers

  • A water and sand play area

  • A building/den area for imaginative construction play
